SCIENTIFIC/FOOD SAFETY EXPERT DATABASE

The Food Safety and Quality Authority of The Gambia was established through an Act of Parliament in 2011 and tasked with ensuring the safety and quality of food and feed commercialized and consumed in The Gambia. One of its key functions is the development and enforcement of regulations through science-based Risk Assessments. The Act provides for an independent scientific committee responsible for the carrying out risk assessments and providing independent scientific opinions on food safety issues. Given the fact that carrying out a risk assessment requires different types and levels of scientific specialization, the Scientific Committee of the Food Safety and Quality Authority wishes to develop a database of food safety-related scientific experts for the country. The main objective of this exercise is to establish a pool of scientific experts and ensure access to available food safety-related specialists to support the work of the Scientific Committee. This will enable the Scientific Committee to maximize the utilization of available scientific experts when conducting food safety Risk Assessments on behalf of the Food Safety and Quality Authority of The Gambia.
